Escanaba fire rekindles after crews extinguish it once

ESCANABA, MI— Escanaba firefighters had to return to the site of a fire that rekindled after they initially put it out Friday morning.

At about 9:35 a.m., the Escanaba Department of Public Safety was sent to 517 S. 8th Street and found flames coming from the home. Fire Engine 34, Ladder 35, and the Rescue Truck all responded.

The fire was successfully contained and extinguished. Everyone in the home got out before crews arrived. No injuries were reported.

Firefighters had to return to the site around 8:30 p.m. after the structure relit. Crews found the roof fully engulfed.
ESPD extinguished the fire and stayed at the site for another four hours.

EPSD was assisted at the scene by the Escanaba Township Fire Department, Ford River Fire Department, and Cornell Fire Department. Delta County Search and Rescue provided a warming trailer for personnel and equipment due to the frigid weather conditions. Rampart was also on scene to help, along with the Red Cross.
