Dog lost, house and garage damaged in Wells Township fire

WELLS TOWNSHIP, MI— A house fire caused major smoke and water damage in Wells Township Saturday.

Public Safety crews were dispatched just before 11 a.m. to 6235 M.25 Lane. Upon arrival, they saw smoke and flames coming from a south entrance door and smoke coming from the eaves.

The source of the fire was found in the kitchen and quickly brought under control. A dog that was trapped in the house died. Siding on a detached garage melted from the heat of the flames.

Public Safety was assisted by the Ford River Township and Escanaba Township Fire Departments, DTE, UPPCO, Delta County Central Dispatch, the Delta County Sheriff’s Office, the Delta County Road Commission, and the Red Cross.

Public Safety would also like to extend its condolences to the family for the loss of the family dog.
