Two injured in fire at Escanaba's Harbor Tower

ESCANABA, MI— Residents were evacuated from an Escanaba apartment building Saturday morning when they smelled smoke and the fire alarm was activated.

The Escanaba Public Safety Department responded to Harbor Tower, quickly located the source of the fire, and rapidly brought it under control.

The majority of residents were able to return safely to their apartments. Those who were displaced by smoke or water damage are being assisted by the Red Cross.

One EPSD officer and one civilian were injured during the incident.

Additional information will be released as it becomes available.

Assisting in the incident were Delta County Central Dispatch, Rampart EMS, the Delta County Sheriff’s Office, Delta County Search and Rescue, RTF, Data Bus, Delta County Emergency Management, the Ford River and Escanaba Township Fire Departments, Michigan State Police, the Escanaba Civic Center, Escanaba Water Department, DTE Energy, and the Escanaba Electric Department.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
