Fire claims Pembine man's life

PEMBINE, WISCONSIN— A 30-year-old man was killed in a house fire in Marinette County on Tuesday.

Marinette County Dispatch was notified around 6:08 a.m. of a fire at a residence on Holmes Junction Road in the town of Pembine. The Beecher Dunbar Pembine and Amberg fire departments responded to the scene, along with deputies from the Marinette County Sheriff’s Office.

During fire suppression efforts, crews searched the house and found a man inside. He was removed from the house and pronounced dead at the scene. The victim has been identified as Roy Newling, 30.

A 30-year-old woman, 9-year-old child, and 2-year-old child were taken to the hospital for treatment.

The fire remains under investigation.

Assisting in the incident were the Pembine Dunbar Beecher Rescue Squad Wausaukee Rescue, and Integrity Care EMS.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
