No injuries reported following Ishpeming apartment building fire

ISHPEMING, MI— Canda Manor Apartments in Ishpeming were evacuated early Monday morning, following a fire alarm.

The Ishpeming Fire Department was called to the building around 4:03 on a report of a structure fire. Upon arrival, firefighters saw light smoke coming from the third floor.

A crew performed a primary search and found fire in a bathroom wall. The flames were quickly extinguished. Firefighters were on the scene for nearly two hours performing overhaul and checking for fire extension. The last unit left the scene around 6:30 a.m.

The two apartments directly below the fire suffered extensive water damage. Officials later found a water pipe had burst before or during the fire.

All residents got out of the building safely. No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.

Assisting at the scene were the Ishpeming Township Fire Department, Marquette County Rescue 131, UP Health System West, the Ishpeming Police Department, and Marquette County Central Dispatch.

The Pigs-n-Heat Fire Relief Fund will be helping any residents displaced by the fire.
