Semi full of scrap metal catches fire in Escanaba

ESCANABA, MI— No injuries were reported when a semi box trailer caught fire in Escanaba on Friday.

The Escanaba Department of Public Safety received a report around 2:25 p.m. that a semi transporting scrap metal appeared to be on fire while traveling through the city. Officers found the truck at the intersection of
3rd Avenue North and North Lincoln Road, where they observed heavy smoke and flames coming from the trailer.

The driver was directed to pull into a nearby parking lot. Officers deployed the department’s ladder truck and poured water into the box trailer full of scrap metal and extinguished the fire.

The incident was brought under control without any reported injuries.
