Sunday fires in Escanaba affect front porch, truck bed filled with fireworks

ESCANABA, MI— The Escanaba Department of Public Safety was called to two fire-related situations early Sunday.

Around 12:15 a.m., officers were dispatched to a residence at 1200 10th Avenue South on a report that the front porch was on fire and residents were evacuating. The homeowner used a fire extinguisher to knock down the flames. Officers used a hose line and confirmed there was no extension of fire into the house.

And around 12:46 a.m., crews were sent to 604 Ludington Street for a truck with a fire in its bed. It was parked on the street next to other vehicles and close to an apartment building.

As officers arrived, fireworks that were stored in the bed began going off in all directions. Officers used an attack line and extinguished the fire before damage could be done to any other property.

Delta County Central Dispatch and the Escanaba City Electric Department assisted in the incidents.
