Explosion and resulting house fire kill two people in Marinette County

WAUSAUKEE, WI— Two people were killed in a house fire in Marinette County last Friday.

Around 10:34 a.m., County Dispatch received a report of an explosion at a home on Finnel Road in Wausaukee. The Wausaukee Fire Department and Rescue personnel, along with deputies from the Marinette County Sheriff’s Office, responded and found the home fully engulfed.

Crews conducted a search of the house after the fire was extinguished. They discovered Roger McClellan, 81, and Barbara McClellan, 79, who were pronounced dead at the scene.

The incident remains under investigation by the Wisconsin Department of Justice State Fire Marshals, the Marinette County Sheriff’s Office, and the Marinette County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
