Negaunee Township house fire kills one man, injures another

fatal fire

NEGAUNEE TOWNSHIP, MI— One person is dead and another seriously injured from a Negaunee Township house fire Monday night.

Around 8:40 p.m., Michigan State Police from the Negaunee Post were dispatched to a home on M-35 on a report of a fire. Troopers found the residence engulfed in flames.

One man made it out of the house but was severely burned. He said another man was still inside the structure.

Troopers tried to go into the house but couldn’t because of heavy smoke and flames. The Negaunee Township Fire Department made entry while extinguishing the fire. Once it was out, a 67-year-old man was found dead inside the residence.

The man who escaped the fire was taken to the hospital for treatment. There’s no word on his condition.

Troopers were assisted by the MSP Fire Investigation Unit, Negaunee Township Fire Department, Negaunee Police Department, Marquette Township Fire and Rescue, Negaunee Township Water Department, and Marquette County Central Dispatch.
