NEGAUNEE TOWNSHIP, MI— “Ready” status within the “Ready, Set, Go!” protocol has been lifted for residents along North Basin Drive near the Ridge Fire in Negaunee Township.

Recent rain and cooler temperatures have helped DNR firefighters make progress in establishing containment lines. The wildfire is now 50-percent contained. Incident command used a drone that collected infrared data to pinpoint fire hotspots. That analysis, along with fire behavior predictions for the coming days, helped to inform the decision to lift the “Ready” status.

The Ridge Fire is estimated to be 466 acres. Its cause remains under investigation.

The Craig Lake Fire is estimated at 606 acres and is 90-percent contained. The cause of that fire has been confirmed as a lightning strike. And the Black River Fire has burned about 350 acres and is 70-percent contained. A lightning strike is confirmed to have started that fire.
