MARQUETTE, MI— A dog died in a house fire in Marquette early Tuesday morning.

The Marquette Fire Department was dispatched around 3:40 a.m. to 1308 North Front Street and encountered visible smoke and fire on the first floor of a two-floor residential structure. Additional personnel from other fire departments were requested.

The fire was brought under control within 10 minutes and a primary search of the house was conducted within 15 minutes. The blaze was officially declared under control at 4:05 a.m. Units remained at the scene until approximately 5:45 a.m.

The origin and cause of the fire remain under investigation.

The Marquette Fire Department was assisted by the Marquette City Police Department, Marquette Township Fire Department, Chocolay Township Fire Department, UPHS EMS Unit 141, and the Marquette Board of Light and Power.
