MARQUETTE, MI— Two of three Upper Peninsula fires that started last month are now fully contained.
The Department of Natural Resources says the 600-acre Craig Lake Fire in Baraga County and the 350-acre Black River Fire south of Wakefield were both started by lightning strikes.
The 500-acre Ridge Fire about 10 miles northwest of Marquette is about 85-percent contained. DNR officials say recent heavy rainfall has helped extinguish deep pockets of hot spots. Upcoming weather, including potential snow, will also help with containment.
The Ridge Fire was spotted by a DNR pilot on October 9. Its cause remains under investigation.
