(UNDATED)- Michigan Department of Environmental Quality officials have extended the deadline for a proposed new county road in Marquette County.
According to the Mining Journal, the deadline for the permitting decision on County Road 595 has been moved to October 1st.
The DEQ has also asked the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to hold a public hearing regarding its objection to issuing the project permits… and to rule whether the Marquette County Road Commission has satisfied the agency’s objection.
The proposed new county road would connect U.S. 41 in Humboldt Township with County Road ‘AAA’ in Michigamme Township.
The new road would provide a more direct route for trucking ore from Kennecott’s Eagle Mine to its Humboldt Mill processing center.
