MARQUETTE TOWNSHIP, MI-- Marquette Township is getting a new township and fire hall.
Officials say the existing building was constructed almost 30 years ago and no longer serves the needs of an expanded population. The new buildings will be high-performance, efficient, sustainable structures that may use geothermal heating and cooling and solar-generated back-up power. The facilities will be moved to the corner of Commerce Drive and Moran Street, closer to the majority of township residents.
Officials say the new fire hall will also be in a position to reduce response times to most of the calls firefighters receive.
The plan will cost about $3.9 million. The township says no additional taxes or millages will fund construction.
The project will begin this fall and is expected to be completed by late next summer.
