MILWAUKEE, WI (AP)-- Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker has signed a right-to-work bill into law, striking another blow against organized labor after four years ago effectively ending collective bargaining for public-sector workers.
Walker signed the bill at an invitation-only ceremony Monday morning at Badger Meter north of Milwaukee. He was surrounded by company officials and others who supported the divisive proposal including Lt. Gov. Rebecca Kleefisch, Assembly Speaker Robin Vos and Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald.
The new law, which takes effect immediately, makes Wisconsin the 25th state to ban contracts that force all workers to pay union dues.
Walker signed the bill after spending the weekend in Iowa and before he heads to another early presidential primary state of New Hampshire this weekend.
