Dianda on new MI road committee

LANSING, MI (AP)--   A new Michigan House committee has been formed to look at funding repairs to the state's roads.

The Committee on Roads and Economic Development was announced Thursday and likely will handle the road-funding bills related to the plan outlined Wednesday by Republican House Speaker Kevin Cotter.

Cotter says "finding a long-term plan for Michigan's crumbling roads" is one of lawmakers' top priorities and says it's time to set up a committee to handle the issue.

Republican Representative Jeff Farrington from Utica will be the committee chair.

The committee's Republican members are Peter Pettalia of Presque Isle, Al Pscholka of Stevensville, Andrea Lafontaine of Columbus Township and Chris Afendoulis of Grand Rapids. The Democratic members are Marilyn Lane of Fraser and Scott Dianda of Calumet.
