Marquette Mayor passes from stroke

MARQUETTE, MI--   Marquette Mayor Tom Baldini died Tuesday, after he suffered a major stroke December 23.

Sources say Baldini was having dinner with friends Saturday night when he collapsed. He was being treated in the UPHS-Marquette ICU when the decision was made to take him off life support around 4 pm Tuesday.

Baldini was elected to the City Charter Commission in 2011 and the City Commission in 2014. He was re-elected in November 2016 to the Commission and voted mayor by its members.

Mayoral duties now fall to Mayor Pro Tempore Dave Campana.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
