LaFave says he has coronavirus

IRON MOUNTAIN, MI--   State Representative Beau LaFave has tested positive for COVID-19.

The Iron Mountain Republican said in a Facebook post he received the test results Tuesday. LaFave had symptoms similar to a sinus infection over the weekend and has been quarantining at home.  He’s working with staff at the Capitol in Lansing to inform people who were in contact with him.

LaFave says he was following the protocols of wearing a mask, social distancing and frequent hand washing before he became sick.

The disclosure came the same day Governor Gretchen Whitmer visited the Copper Country amid a spike in coronavirus cases. She urged residents to continue wearing masks, which she said was the best defense against the virus.

The UP is in Phase 5 of the MI Safe Start Plan. Whitmer says people need to be vigilant because no one wants the region to roll back a phase and become more restrictive.
