McBroom pushes for wolf hunt

LANSING, MI--   The Michigan Senate adopted on Tuesday resolutions calling for a wolf hunt in the state.

Sponsored by Senator Ed McBroom, they urge the Natural Resources Commission to authorize, and the Department of Natural Resources to organize, wolf hunting and trapping as part of the state’s wolf management efforts beginning in 2021.

The D-N-R is in the process of updating the state’s wolf management plan and hopes to complete it by the end of the year. McBroom says there’s no precedent to delay a 2021 hunt while the plan is reviewed. He says wolves have met all federal recovery goals and they need to be managed using scientific principles.
