Senator Stabenow stops at NMU, talks cybersecurity and EAN

MARQUETTE, MI--   U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow visited Northern Michigan University Wednesday.

She toured the Cybersecurity Institute and spoke with officials about the school’s Educational Access Network—or EAN. She said she’s been working with NMU for some time to expand access to high-speed broadband internet in rural areas.

“NMU is really the leader in the U.P., and really early on was out helping to connect schools, helping to connect telehealth, and so on.”

The Senator said protecting the internet and websites has become increasingly important over the past few years.

“These are jobs, going into cybersecurity, where a student can really write their own ticket, all across the country.”

After her Marquette visit, Stabenow headed to Negaunee to take a look at the new Union Carpenters and Millwrights Skilled Training Center. She then headed to Houghton to make some stops at Michigan Tech.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
