Marquette Planning Commission rejects hotel permit

MARQUETTE, MI— A new hotel will not be built at 955 Lakeshore Boulevard in Marquette.

The City Planning Commission voted Tuesday night to deny a special use permit for a hotel on the site. Property owner Derek Parker wanted to construct a four-story hotel with 107 guest rooms and a 117-space parking lot. The area is behind a bed and breakfast and near condos.

The meeting lasted about five hours, with numerous residents voicing their objections to the proposed project.

The commission voted 5-2 against issuance of the permit.

Developers say they’ll look for another site for the hotel.
