Upper Peninsula resident appointed to state council

LANSING, MI— Governor Gretchen Whitmer has appointed more members to the Growing Michigan Together Council, and this time, one of the appointees is from the Upper Peninsula.

A couple of weeks ago, the governor announced a number of initial appointments. All were from downstate, and most of them from southeast Michigan. On Thursday, she announced Marty Fittante of Kingsford was named to the council. Fittante is the CEO of InvestUP. He previously served as a legislative staffer.

The Growing Michigan Together Council will advise the governor on policies to grow the state’s population. It will also look at ways to prepare the workforce for in-demand jobs. The Council’s four workgroups are PreK-12 Education, Higher Education, Infrastructure, and Jobs, Talent, and People.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
