City of Hancock to purchase former Finlandia University buildings

HANCOCK, MI— The Hancock City Council has signed a $30,000 purchase agreement for three former Finlandia University buildings.

O’Keefe and Associates, LLC was appointed receiver of the university’s property in April. It filed a motion to abandon six of the properties, saying no one was willing to pay enough for them.

The city has agreed to purchase Mannerheim, Nikander, and Wargelin halls. Councilmembers say they’ll winterize the buildings and will work quickly to sell them.

Ideas for how the properties will be used are still under consideration.
