Solutions sought for Ishpeming flooding

ISHPEMING, MI— The City of Ishpeming is investigating the causes of flooding this past spring.

The City Council has received several complaints from residents throughout the year about flooding in the sanitary sewer system.

Escanaba-based Tunnel Vision Pipeline Services was engaged to check 1,664.4 linear feet of sewer lines. Findings concluded that uncapped sewer lateral lines are contributing to water infiltration into the city sanitary sewer and are also the likely source for water entering homes.

The City Council is considering several solutions. City staff is addressing the identified issues and investigating additional potential sources for groundwater or storm water infiltration into Ishpeming’s sewer system.
