Lt. Gov. Garlin Gilchrist visits elementary school, Bay College

NORWAY, MI— Michigan’s Lieutenant Governor continued his tour of the U.P. Thursday with a stop at Norway-Vulcan schools.

At Norway Elementary School, Garlin Gilchrist highlighted a state program that provides free breakfast and lunch to 1.4 million students across the state. He also talked about the state’s investment in per-pupil funding, tutoring, and after-school programs.

The Lieutenant Governor then traveled to Wallace to tour the Advanced Blending Solutions facility.

Gilchrist’s final stop was in Escanaba. He met with Bay College President Nerita Hughes to tour campus and view student programs. Governor Gretchen Whitmer has proposed making community college tuition-free for every high school graduate.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
