Undated - Four U-P municipalities are getting money from the state’s Financially Distressed Cities, Villages and Townships Grant Program. Cities, villages, and townships can participate if they experience one or more conditions of ‘probable financial distress.’ The grants fund programs, services, or enhancements that move the municipality toward financial stability. The Village of Calumet is getting nearly 571-thousand dollars for infrastructure replacement at the public works building and village hall…Gaastra (GAS’-truh) will receive 59-thousand dollars to upgrade technology equipment and software… The Village of Laurium is getting 250-thousand to replace a fire equipment truck… and Ontonagon is getting more than 149-thousand dollars to purchase a backhoe and motor grader.
