DNR exploring creation of National Heritage Area designation in the Copper Country

Undated - The Department of Natural Resources wants to know what residents think about creating a “Copper Country National Heritage Area” in the western

U-P. The DNR’s Office of Public Lands and Michigan History Center are joining forces, and will begin working with local groups to determine the feasibility of a National Heritage Area designation. It would cover Keweenaw, Houghton, and a small portion of Ontonagon counties, including Isle Royale. The DNR is holding 2-public input sessions about the possible designation at Michigan Tech on July-9th. They’ll take place from 2-to-4 p-m and 6-to-8 p-m in the Alumni Lounge in the Memorial Union Building.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
