HOUGHTON, MI— The City of Houghton has won the Michigan Municipal League’s 2024 Community Excellence Award.
The CEA was developed in 2007 to recognize innovative placemaking projects and programs across the state. Finalists were determined by a voting board. They presented their projects at the League’s convention last week on Mackinac Island, where attendees voted for their favorite one.
Houghton was given the award for its “Connecting Houghton” project, which aims to connect the downtown area to the waterfront through creating places for people.
Houghton competed against Brighton, Grandville, and Oak Park for the CEA trophy.
