MARQUETTE, MI— Marquette residents are moving to a cart system for trash and recyclables, and the City Commission is considering updated rules for that system.
Cart distribution will take place this summer. Those who don’t have a cart yet can still use garbage bags with pink Waste Management stickers.
Under the updates, residents would still put bins out after 1 p.m. the day before collection, but the containers would need to be removed from the public right-of-way within 12 hours of pickup. The old ordinance had residents putting the carts out of public view.
The City Commission will vote on the proposed rules at its May 12 meeting. If passed, they’ll go into effect on May 22.
