LANSING, MI— State Representative Dave Prestin has introduced a bill that would allow bow hunters to carry a pistol with them.
He says hunters can face many dangers in the woods, like bears, wolves, and cougars. Prestin says bow hunters are very limited in their ability to respond if one of those animals becomes aggressive and decides to attack them.
Under Michigan law, bow hunters are only permitted to carry a pistol if they possess a valid Concealed Pistol License, whether concealed or not. Prestin’s bill would allow hunters to legally carry a sidearm into the woods to defend themselves, not to take game.
