Marquette implementing parking restrictions during waste collection

MARQUETTE, MI— The City of Marquette is restricting parking during garbage and recyclable collection times.

Commissioners approved the new ordinance at a meeting Monday night.

In January, the commission approved a contract extension with Waste Management. That included a move to a fully carted system and a shift to daytime collection. The city was then required to prohibit on-street parking in each respective collection zone during pick-ups to accommodate the carts.

A list of collection zones and hours where parking will be restricted is below.

Tuesday Collection

Zone 1 (No Parking 12 a.m. to 2 p.m.):

Beginning at the intersection of Magnetic Street and Fourth Street;
then southerly on Fourth Street and Fourth Street extended to the US-41 Bypass; then westerly on the US-41 Bypass to Grove Street;
then southwesterly on Grove Street to Specker Circle;
then north along the west line of Bethel Baptist Church to the south line of Hawk’s Ridge Condominiums;
then west to the Marquette Golf and Country Club Heritage Course;
then north, west and southwesterly along the north line of the Marquette Golf and Country Club Heritage Course to the city limits;
then west, north, east, and north on the city limits to Mildred Avenue extended; then east on Mildred Avenue extended and Mildred Avenue to Elm Street;
then south and east on Elm Street to McClellan Avenue;
then easterly along the south line of Marquette Senior High School to Magnetic Street extended; then east on Magnetic Street extended and Magnetic Street to the point of beginning.

Sub-Zone 1 (No Parking 12 a.m. to 7 a.m.):
Fourth Street
Grove Street: East of McClellan Avenue Lincoln Avenue: South of Magnetic Street
McClellan Avenue: From Grove Street north to Elm Street Seventh Street: US 41 north to Magnetic Street
Sixth Street: From Michigan Street north to Hewitt Avenue Washington Street: US 41 east to Fourth Street
West Baraga Avenue: 300 Block
West Bluff Street: From Rublein east to Fourth Street West Spring Street: 300 Block

Wednesday CollectionZone 2 (No Parking 12 a.m. to 2 p.m.):
Beginning at the intersection of Magnetic Street and Fourth Street; then north on Fourth Street and Presque Isle Avenue to Fair Avenue;
then east on Fair Avenue and Fair Avenue extended to the shoreline of Lake Superior; then south along the shoreline of Lake Superior to Hampton Street extended;
then west along Hampton Street extended and Hampton Street to US-41; then north on US-41 to the US-41 Bypass;
then west on US-41 Bypass to Fourth Street extended;
then northerly on Fourth Street extended and Fourth Street to the point of beginning.

Zone 4 (No Parking 12 a.m. to 2 p.m.):
Beginning at the intersection of Magnetic Street and Fourth Street;
then west on Magnetic Street and Magnetic Street extended to Marquette Senior High School line;
then westerly along the south line of Marquette Senior High School to McClellan Avenue;
then west and north on Elm Street to Mildred Avenue;
then west on Mildred Avenue and Mildred Avenue extended to the city limits;
then north, west, north, east, south, east, north, east, north, east, and north along the city limits to the shoreline of Lake Superior;
then easterly and southerly along the shoreline of Lake Superior to Fair Avenue extended; then west on Fair Avenue extended and Fair Avenue to Presque Isle Avenue;
then south on Presque Isle Avenue and Fourth Street to the point of beginning.
