Paul Schloegel new Marquette mayor

MARQUETTE, MI— The Marquette City Commission elected a new mayor and mayor pro tem at its annual organizational meeting Monday night.

Sally Davis and Michael Larson retook their oaths of office after winning two seats in this month’s election. After that was done, the commission selected Paul Schloegel as mayor and Jermey Ottaway as mayor pro tem.

In other business, Mayor Schloegel reminded residents that the off-leash dog park at Tourist Park Campground will remain closed until November 26. Recent snowfall delayed construction, but Schloegel says the end result will be worth the wait.

And I will say that even though it’s an inconvenience right now, the work that has been done out there is really turning that space into something that is exciting as far as, you know, kind of getting it up to speed. It needed some attention and it looks really good.”

To make up for the delayed opening, the off-leash dog park season will be extended through next May 15.
