Cody Mayer disagrees with appointment of Margaret Brumm to County Board just days before mid-term election

Cody Mayer

MARQUETTE, MI— “An insult to the Democratic process.”

That’s what Marquette City Commissioner Cody Mayer calls the selection of Margaret Brumm as a County Commissioner for District 1 Tuesday night.

Brumm was sworn in by a 3-2 vote to replace Karl Numinen, who resigned from the Board last week. The seat was originally held by John DePetro, who resigned due to health reasons last year. The Board appointed Numinen to the seat. Mayer defeated Numinen in the August primary, receiving more than 71 percent of the vote.

He was expected to take the seat January 1 and serve the unexpired term through December 31 of 2028, but Brumm announced a write-in campaign shortly after the primary.

Mayer is taking issue with the Board appointing his write-in opponent just two weeks before the November election.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
