NMU health official asked to serve on MDHHS advisory council

MARQUETTE, MI— Northern Michigan University Center for Rural Health Director Elise Bur has been selected to serve on a state council.

She will be part of the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services’ Social Determinants of Health (SDOH) Hub Advisory Council.

This year, communities across the state will pilot SDOH Hubs. They’ll bring a variety of sectors together to address the social determinants of health and improve health equity. The advisory council will guide the implementation of SDOH Hub pilot projects and develop recommendations for future work.

Bur says she wants to make sure rural voices are heard and represented. She also wants to assist in developing a model that will support the Community Health Workers that are being educated and trained in the region.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
