MiLEAP summarily suspends a group childcare home license in Harvey

MARQUETTE, MI— The state has suspended the license of a group childcare home in Marquette.

The Michigan Department of Lifelong Education, Advancement, and Potential, Child Care Licensing Bureau has issued a notice of intent to revoke the license of Andrea Richard, located at 371 West Wright Place.

An investigation that concluded Tuesday found violations of the Child Care Organizations Act and administrative rules, including but not limited to the following:

  • Failure to act in a manner that is conducive to the welfare of children.
  • Failure to provide appropriate care and supervision of children at all times.
  • Failure to know the location of children at all times.

Effective July 16 at 6 p.m., Richard is prohibited from operating a group childcare home at her current location or at any other site. She’s also prohibited from accepting children for care. The order also requires Richard to inform all parents of children in her care of these developments.

MiLEAP says it was critical to take emergency action to protect the health, welfare, and safety of the children at this group child care home.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
