Delta County, MI - Three cases of measles have been confirmed in Delta County. That’s according to Public Health, Delta & Menominee Counties. The last time the disease appeared in the 2-counties was in 1989. They are the first cases identified in the U-P this year. Officials say the health department is working with the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services to investigate the cases and notify anyone who may have been exposed. PHDM is urging residents to check if they are protected from measles by reviewing their vaccination records. Measles is very contagious and spreads through the air. Symptoms include a high fever, cough, runny nose, red and watery eyes, tiny white spots in the mouth, and a red, raised rash that starts on the face and spreads to the body. If you have those symptoms, call your healthcare provider before seeking medical help so don’t spread measles to others.
Two doses of the measles vaccine offers 97-percent protection.
