ST. IGNACE, MI (AP)-- A Chippewa County medical center is getting $5 million in loans from the federal government to expand services.
U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow says the money will be used to build a new medical office building and renovate existing space for surgeries at the Mackinac Straits Health System in St. Ignace.
The loans come through a rural development program at the U.S. Agriculture Department. Stabenow, a Michigan Democrat, chairs the Senate Agriculture Committee.
Mackinac Straits Health Chief Executive Rod Nelson thanked Stabenow for her assistance as well as former U.S. Representative Bart Stupak.
