Legionnaire's disease closes hotel in Watersmeet

WATERSMEET, MI--   The hotel at the Lac Vieux Desert Resort Casino has been shut down due to Legionnaire’s disease.

WLUC-TV reports the Dancing Eagles Hotel was evacuated after one of the guests contracted the pneumonia-like disease.  Water samples from the hotel tested positive for Legionella bacteria.

Officials at the Watersmeet resort say the hotel will remain closed while the water system is sanitized.  The casino and restaurant tested negative for the bacteria.  Water in those areas comes through a different system and they remain open.

Legionnaire’s disease is spread through mist or vapor.  It cannot be transmitted from person to person.
