UPCAP helping people decipher Medicare

IRON MOUNTAIN, MI--   The Upper Peninsula Commission for Area Progress is a holding free seminar next month to help people new to Medicare understand their benefits and choices.

Sherry Whitman is UPCAP’s regional Michigan Medicare/Medicaid Assistance Program coordinator.  She says Medicare has become much more complicated over the past few years, and most people have a difficult time understanding their options. Whitman says the seminar is targeted toward people who will be eligible for Medicare within the next six months.

The first session will be held March 28 at 2 p.m. at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church gathering room in Iron Mountain.  To register call 800-803-7174, or dial 211 and say you want to register for the Welcome to Medicare event in Iron Mountain on March 28.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
