Hospital functioning normally, UPHS-Marquette official says

MARQUETTE, MI--   It’s business as usual at UPHS-Marquette.

That’s according to Regional Director of Marketing and Business Development Victor Harrington, who says the hospital has retained a group of highly qualified temporary nurses while UPHS nurses are on strike. Harrington says that’s allowed the hospital to remain fully staffed.

“You know, we want to assure our patients and the community that our doors are indeed open and they will continue to receive the quality of care they would expect any other day,” he says.

Harrington says administration appreciates the professionalism demonstrated by picketers, but they’re taking precautions. Security has increased inside the hospital and entrances are restricted. Visitors can use the north entrance at the Neldberg building or the skywalk on the third level of the parking garage.

Harrington says the administration is looking forward to resuming negotiations.

“We remain ready to returning to the bargaining table to work to develop an agreement and a new contract that meets the needs of our nurses, our hospital, and our community,” he says.

UPHS nurses will be on strike through Saturday at 7 a.m.
