MUNISING, MI-- Munising Memorial Hospital is the recipient of a Department of Agriculture grant that aims to increase rural access to health care services.
More than $303,000 will be used to purchase telemedicine equipment for six sites in Marquette and Alger counties. New 3D mammography equipment will replace outdated 2D mammography technology. Officials say it improves cancer detection by 40 percent.
The new telemedicine equipment will impact a population of nearly 3,000. Officials say it will decrease travel time and provide the most comprehensive breast imaging services, which aren’t usually available in rural communities.
