Marquette hospital move successful

MARQUETTE, MI--   UPHS-Marquette is officially open at its new Baraga Avenue campus. 

Patient Move Command Centers opened at 4 a.m. Sunday. About 120 patients were taken to the new hospital in four different groups. Officials say all patients were successfully transferred to the new building before 11 a.m., and all services have been transitioned to the new facility.

The new Emergency Department opened at 6 a.m., and visitors were allowed to see patients beginning at noon Sunday.

UPHS-Marquette physician practices that have moved to the adjacent UP Medical Office Building include Brain & Spine, Cancer Care, Digestive & Liver Specialists, Heart & Vascular, Specialty Clinic, Urology and Urogynecology. They start seeing patients Monday, June 3.

The new UPHS-Marquette hospital is a nearly 525,000-square-foot, eight-story facility. The new main phone number is 906-449-3000.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
