Women's Center schedules events during Domestic Violence Awareness Month

MARQUETTE, MI--   The Marquette Women’s Center is on a mission to educate the public during Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

Center Executive Director Beth Casady says events include a Purple Pet Walk October 9 at the Marquette Commons, “Shop Til It Stops” October 18 at Pak Ratz—the store whose proceeds benefit the Women’s Center, and a candlelight vigil October 24 at the Marquette Commons.

Casady says domestic violence continues to be a problem in the community, and the events serve to make people more aware of what services the Women’s Center offers.

“Our services are free, they’re confidential. We have someone available 24/7 to support. And that might be as simple as just talking to someone, talking to an advocate. It might be helping them with a safety plan; it may be helping them come into our shelter,” she says.

To reach the Women’s Center Support Line call 226-6611 or 800-455-6611.

Oct 1- Displaying pinwheels at the courthouse @ 10:00 a.m.
