Detroit-area hospital system says its virus cases flattening

DETROIT, MI (AP)--   A major Detroit-area health care provider is reporting another drop in COVID-19 patients.

Henry Ford Health System said Thursday it has 617 patients with the coronavirus, the lowest number since April 1. The company cautions that the crisis is far from over, but says it’s encouraged enough to start scheduling surgeries unrelated to the coronavirus. It's also suspending plans for extra space for COVID-19 patients.

Meanwhile, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer said the state’s revenues could drop by $7 billion over the next 18 months. She urged President Donald Trump to work with Congress to send more federal aid to states and local governments.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
