Coronavirus identified in Baraga County

BARAGA COUNTY, MI--   The first COVID-19 positive case is being reported in Baraga County.

Kate Beer from the Western UP Health Department says the patient is a man with a recent history of travel. The health department is investigating if the case is travel-related and if additional people have been in close contact with the man.

Beer says additional information will be provided if the investigation reveals any possible lower-risk community exposures.

There is currently no vaccine for COVID-19. The best way to prevent illness is to avoid being exposed to the virus.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
