COVID-19 testing event a "huge success," health department says

MARQUETTE, MI--   Nearly 1,000 people got tested for COVID-19 in a Marquette parking lot over the weekend.

The Marquette County Health Department says 993 residents drove through the Berry Events Center lot Saturday and Sunday to get a test. Health department staff and a group from Team Rubicon registered people and the Michigan National Guard administered the tests.

Northern Michigan University also provided golf carts. Officers from NMU Public Safety, the Marquette County Sheriff’s Office and Michigan State Police helped at the event.

Health officials say widespread testing is critical to getting a handle on the coronavirus.
