United Way to offer free cloth masks for Make a Difference Day

MARQUETTE, MI--   The United Way of Marquette County is giving away face masks this weekend.

As part of Make a Difference Day on Saturday, the United Way will distribute 23,000 reusable cloth face masks free to anyone in the community. The drive-thru event takes place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the south entrance of the Peninsula Medical Center on Fair Avenue.

The masks are sealed in plastic. The event will follow COVID-19 interaction recommendations.

The United Way of Marquette County received the masks from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services through its Project: America Strong grant program. The goal of the project is to slow the spread of COVID-19 by sending free masks to communities in need.

Following the event, the United Way will reach out to local groups to distribute free masks until the supply runs out. If your business, nonprofit, or school could use masks, please contact the UW office at 226-8171.
