COVID closes Manistique schools

MANISTIQUE, MI— Manistique Area Schools are closing because of the coronavirus.

In a release Superintendent Howard Parmentier says he spoke with officials from the LMAS Health Department. They said they’re concerned about the number of positive COVID cases in the area, and there’s evidence that confirms the virus’ transmission within the schools.

Buildings will be closed Thursday through October 8.

However, athlete practices and games will be held as scheduled. Athletes will undergo antigen testing starting Thursday and two days next week. Those who don’t want to be tested will not be able to participate, and if a student tests positive for COVID, that sport will be discontinued through the closure period.
