Cities of Ishpeming, Negaunee will Fight to Fill the Blood Bank

NEGAUNEE, ISHPEMING MI— It’s no scary movie.

Negaunee and Ishpeming are competing to see who can give the most blood. The cities are looking for donors for the inaugural Fight to Fill the Blood Bank.

The U.P. Regional Blood Center is experiencing a critical need for all blood types. Residents from both towns are urged to give the gift of life and fill the coffers, so to speak. The city that gives the most pints will win an honorary blood drive trophy.

Ishpeming City Manager Craig Cugini says his is the community of choice in Marquette County. He challenged Negaunee City Manager Nate Heffron, who accepted, saying obviously his city will donate the most.

Ishpeming residents can donate blood on November 5th from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Ishpeming Senior Center.

Donations in Negaunee can be made on November 10th from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Negaunee High School.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
