DETROIT, MI (MPRN)— The U.S. reopens its northern and southern land borders to non-essential, fully-vaccinated travelers beginning Monday.
The borders closed in March of last year to limit the spread of COVID-19. Only those doing what the government called “essential” work could cross.
Now anyone can pass through customs by bridge, tunnel or ferry with some conditions. Adults must carry proof that they’ve been vaccinated -- and an official identification card – while children must show evidence that they tested negative for COVID before entering the U.S.
Some in communities near the border between the U.S. and Canada say the travel ban cost them badly-needed revenue. Canadian officials, in particular, complained after they reopened their border to international travelers in August, but the U.S. did not follow suit.
